I want to tell you that the colours you have chosen for the heading of the website, i.e. red, green, blue white, and yello are identical with the Druze Flag colours!     Hi Mum I’m a big fan of your music! I was wondering if I could use some of your songs in my graduate student film at USC? It’s a dark drama about a young man who has to make a tough decision, and the tone I want to achieve would be greatly helped by being able to use your music – especially some tracks from Yesterday was Dramatic. The film is not for profit – just a student project – although I plan to submit it to film festivals. Is this ok?

    there’s a festival in djúpavík this weekend & i wanted to see if you guys would want to play. they’ll take care of everything & pay- so i thought maybe if you were open-you’d want to play a little.

    my show is opening as well in the old herring factory, so it would be awesome to see you guys play.

    i know normally a booking person would do this shit- but i wanted to.

    you could play acoustic or rent a setup and they would pay for everything-

    Your show was my favourite at Slovak music festival Pohoda. The warm late night and your music made for me the magic, worth it to measure 10000 km from Houston to Trencin, Slovakia. By the way, I flew over Iceland! :)

    I see you play in Vive Cuervo Salón in México, never thought that would see because you live too far. I was so excited when you played green grass of tunnel and I had collected so much emotion that I could not stand and cried with happiness.

    I am very happy to have listened, one of my dreams come true and more when their audio engineer gave me the play list from your concert. I cried a lot of happiness and thank you very much.

    It was an amazing concert last night in London. I enjoyed it a lot. It was my first time to have this wonderful mum experience. very relaxing, interesting, experimental!!!
    One thing,I read on wikipedia that the name of the band “mum” means nothing according to one of the band members,Kristín. Well I’m not sure about that! :) yesterday at the concert they were selling band t-shirts and there was a picture of a candle on them. Actually mum means candle in Turkish. Is it coincidence? woow what a coincidence then :)

    Thank you for playing such an outstanding show last night at the Logan Square Auditorium. I was not familiar with your music prior to your performance, so this performance was a wonderful surprise for me. Excellent musicianship all around, great energy, exceptionally creative. At first I was trying to find a context to classify your music in, then I just gave up trying. Sorry about the poor acoustics – the Auditorium is a great venue, but the acoustics are pretty ‘boomy’.
    And – Hildur – excellent opening act….very innovative music. I bought your CD and I believe it will stand up to repeated listenings.
    Hope the remainder of your tour is a good one!

    i wrote a review of your show in northampton for my college paper. i would like you to read it.

    There’s a box guitar. There’s an acoustic guitar. There’s a violin, a small cello. There are also a few synthesizers, a drum set with MIDI and sampler pads, some other guitars with intricate pedal setups, a couple melodicas, three harmonicas, three recorders, three kazoos, a trumpet, a ukulele, and a jaw harp. Then there were seven unabashed and extremely talented Icelandic musicians willing to explore the possibilities of all these instruments together. With the fervor and curiosity of a group of children granted infinite access to a room filled with pots and pans, múm put on an artistic and wild show this past Sunday at the Iron Horse in Northampton.

    But it all started with one simple note. “Before we start, I just want to play you this one note, it’s a nice one,” mumbled Örvar Smárason at the start of the set, as if he was introducing the crowd to this thing called music via his melodica. Indeed, their set was truly a discovery process. The first song was “Illuminated,” a simply harmonious dream song. Here we got the first tastes of their vast world of instrumentation – the guitars and watery synthesizers were in full swing on this one. But the standout on this song – and throughout the night – was the monstrous power of the band’s three vocalists: the aforementioned Smárason, Hildur Guðnadóttir, who also played violin and cello, and Sigurlaug Gísladóttir who also played ukulele. Music flows through their veins. They seemingly couldn’t control the gestures their body made as a reaction to the sounds they made through their voices. To hit the high notes, they weren’t afraid to contort their faces and squeeze their eyes shut and lift their arms to the sky like an angelic proclamation. And when they weren’t singing, they were playing their other instruments are just jumping around clapping playfully, yet musically.

    As the night went on, the music got more complicated, but with more sounds and syncopated rhythms and bizarre lyrics (I’ll get to that in a minute) came the revelation of the band’s pure childishness. “This song is about feeling guilty,” admitted Smárason, and after a pause, “like having rocks in your pants.” Northampton laughed confusedly. Other songs began as folk-like acoustic ballads, but with the squeal of some manipulated electronics, against the warm air of the trumpet, against clunky percussive sounds, the songs took on new form. They closed their set with “Sing Along to Songs You Don’t Know,” chanting “You are so beautiful to us/We want to eat you with our spoons,” which can come off as creepy but after a night observing their genuine musicianship and personhood (for example: they dedicated a song to Bo Diddley, the famous box guitar player who died recently, and realized his portrait was on the wall to the left of the stage and kindly asked those standing in front of his portrait to move over just a bit so Bo could see) it seemed more of like an invitation to their imaginary, animated, and entirely musical world. They came back for an encore with fan favorite “Green Grass of Tunnel,” an extremely thoughtful and highly rhythmic and melodic song that must represent the lush landscape of múm’s made-up world.

    Sin Fang Bous opened for múm, performing as a four-piece the work of Iceland’s songwriter Sindri Mar Sigfusson. They combined the standard instrumentation of guitars, drums and bass magically. Sigfusson utilized three different microphones to manipulate the sound of his magnificent lyrics (“Guess I sleep like the dark desert/Yawning the morn in the old den/Wake up with a monkey/Wanna see, wanna see, wanna see, wanna see it?”) as he strummed his acoustic guitar, while the drummer would occasionally clap instead of using a snare and the guitarist and bassist provided delicate but prominent aural textures to the already dense music. I highly recommend both bands for casual listeners, music enthusiasts, or someone who wants to write an essay about the deep layers of their sound.

    For every fans: “Sing Along…” is not too shabby, please don’t grumble ;p [there is almost no glitch, but it’s still mUm – gd music ;))
    I think the worst ever is “Go go smear the pioson Ivy”- songs for 4-years-old children (exept last song on CD-”Winter”). I agree with people who thikns that “old” mum is much better than “new” mum. Band without Valtýsdóttirs isn’t the same;/ :(
